Merry Christmas everyone, I hope you all get to eat and drink too much, hang out in cool places with nice people (or birds) and enjoy the holidays.
This Kakariki (New Zealand red-crowned parakeet) will be getting his fill I'm sure - he lives in a private aviary on the banks peninsula just south of Christchurch - alas there are none in the wild on the peninsula any more. We were very lucky to be able to spend a few minutes feeding him (her?) and the rest of his whanau near Hinewai reserve a couple of weeks' ago.
This is probably as close as I can get to a Christmas image so I'm very grateful for his festive plumage!
